Change of Colours Basel 2020 – creation of the biggest mural of Switzerland

On August 20 to 30, an urban art event of outstanding quality has taken place at Bell Schweiz AG at Neudorfstrasse in Basel. The internationally renowned street artists Mr. Cenz (UK), Bane & Chromeo (CH) and Bust (CH) created three large scale murals on a 800m2 wall.

With thirty more artists will paint additional works around the Bell site on a wall length of over 200 meters.

All in all, 1700 square meters of wall was painted, which sets a Swiss record.

Please find below some additional information on the artists who will paint the main wall:

Internationally renowned street artist Julian Phethean aka MR. CENZ is known for his unique, vivid female portraits. Flowing, cosmic forms in bright colours characterize his portrayals of strong, confident women. In their slightly abstracted form, his works obtain a dreamy, mystical quality. In Basel, Mr. Cenz will be assisted by British graffiti writer Tizer, who is internationally known for his very distinctive, expressive style.

In the next mural part, the Swiss artists Fabian Florin aka BANE and David Kümin aka CHROMEO, two masters of photorealism, will engage in a creative dialogue. Their works are not only known for their technic virtuosity, they are also unique in their reference to their local surroundings.

BANE has not only created a new landmark for his hometown Chur with his mural on the “Mühleturm”, his works can also be found in various locations around Europe, Asia and North Africa. In his murals, always connected to nature, he creates new, dreamlike worlds full of magic.

CHROMEO’s works are thought-provoking. With a twinkle in his eye, he takes up sociocultural topics and comments on them with a playful mix of motives. The glossy appearance of his murals is never purely decorative, but carries a message of greater depth.

The colourful motives of Swiss street artist BUST appear familiar and strikingly new at the same time. Various influences from comics, cartoons and pop art are joined in a new, highly original context. The influence of classic graffiti lettering is always present. Bust’s style is the result of a longtime intensive reflection on the different motives and techniques of graffiti and street art. A conglomerate of different inspirations comes together in a very personal, distinctive universe.
